Oilfields Technological Unit
The Oilfields Technological Unit is a team of specialists focused on solving problems relating to oil production and on key points such as innovation, development and promoting the value of new technologies with our Customers worldwide.
Our products and our technologies aim to solve the problems of the upstream sector (oil&gas extraction and production), both on-shore and off-shore (including deep water), also dealing with secondary recovery systems (gas lift, gas injection, water flooding systems, etc.).

Flow Assurance, Scale Management, reduction of Biofouling and Corrosion are among the main targets that our experts pursue on an everyday basis. Work at the field and in the laboratory represents the starting point for research into new, specific technologies.

La Chimec can make a wide range of products available to its customers, including:

Corrosion inhibitors
Demulsifiers
Scale Inhibitors
Flow Improvers
Dispersants
Biocides
Defoamers
Hydrogen Sulphide Scavengers
Scale dissolvers
Oxygen scavengers
Alcanolamines
Hydrate Inhbitors
Scale Converters
Absorbers

Researches carried out in recent years have enabled us to perfect the following new technologies:

Salt Dispersant for Sodium Chloride

Water with a high salt content can, in certain conditions, lead to precipitation and the formation of sodium chloride deposits. Problems of this type can be very hard to handle, because traditional scale inhibitors are completely inadequate and even solutions at system level, such as batch washes or the use of diluting water involve complex operations and high costs. Our innovative treatment range goes to work directly on the formation of salt crystals, dispersing them even in conditions of over-saturation and gradually eliminating existing deposits.

The use of this technology enables a reduction in running and maintenance costs, diminishes production losses and eliminates complex operations.

Antibiofoulants

The control and management of biofouling in upstream systems is usually based on the use of biocide chemicals, such as aldehydes and quaternary ammonium salts, characterised by high toxin contents, with a considerable impact upon the environment and consequent handling risks.
The constant evolution of our technologies has enabled us to develop a treatment with a very low environmental impact, capable of breaking down and dispersing biofilm, a central element in the process of bacterial proliferation, dramatically weakening sessile bacterial colonies.
This approach makes it possible to reduce the risks for man, minimise the environmental impact and cut down treatment and maintenance costs.

Low Dosage Hydrate Inhibitors

The conventional inhibition of the formation of gas hydrates requires massive use of chemicals. These sometimes contain considerable amounts of toxins, such as methanol, or have a dramatic impact upon the environment. Not only does the use of low-dosage hydrate inhibitors guarantee the reduced handling of chemicals, it also implicates the use of substances which are risk-free for man and the environment. Employing dedicated tools and simulation systems, in our laboratories we are able to reproduce real thermodynamic conditions and determine specific and customised solutions.
In this way, we can minimise the risks for man, diminish the environmental impact and cut treatment costs and those for handling chemicals.

Flow Assurance and Deep Water
In the constant search for new reservoirs and subsequent development of new oilfields, the production of “unconventional oil” is experiencing an exponential growth phase. This type of production requires a dedicated range of chemicals capable of guaranteeing Flow Assurance for the entire system, from the reservoir to shipping. The development of advanced technological models enables our laboratories to investigate and analyse the chemical and physical characteristics of oils and the selection of the best “tailor made” solution.

This technology enables the production of oils in otherwise prohibitive environmental conditions, maintaining high performance standards, fully optimising the use of chemicals and reducing the cost of treatment and the environmental impact.

Services and products to optimise gas softening systems

With the intention of optimising the gas softening process, eliminating undesirable acid substances and fully respecting the sales specifications in terms of composition (CO2 2%vol max and H2S < 4ppm), we have perfected a technology which, via simulation studies and a dedicated range of chemicals, is also able to increase the performance of the system itself.

By keeping chemical and operational problems such as corrosion, forming, adsorber breakdown and the formation of thermostable salts under control, this technology, when combined with a specially designed decontamination and cleaning programme, makes it possible to reduce the consumption of chemicals, increase profit (by processing more gas) and therefore diminish the cost of treatment, respecting the environment, inasmuch as the safety activities related to the system are carried out using products with a low environmental impact.
